The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) Kuala Belait Branch enforcement team apprehended two foreigners after their names were found under the department’s ‘Runaway Workers’ list and overstaying in the country.
They were found in violation of the Section 15 (1) of Chapter 17 of the Immigration Act.
The department nabbed the offenders during a raid at a foreign workers’ living quarters in Jalan Binjai, Kuala Belait yesterday. The Ops Pumpung JIPK 129/2020 led by its Chief Immigration Officer inspected 41 foreign workers staying at the house.
Meanwhile, 37 men were issued special passes, in which they are required to report to the enforcement division for further investigation and action.
The INRD reminded employers to always ensure that their employees’ immigration work pass are still valid, or the employees will be deported and blacklisted after serving imprisonment terms.
Employers are also reminded to always know of their employees’ whereabouts, while foreign workers are also reminded not to make any deal or handover their passports to any individual who claims to be an agent in handling passport arrangements.
The Chief Immigration Officer of the Kuala Belait Immigration Enforcement Division said they will increase enforcement activities in the country by implementing continuous monitoring, operations and inspection.
