Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) will soon have an alumni association following the Interim Executive Committee Officers Election at the college’s Business Marketing Communication Centre (BMCC) on October 3.
KIGS CEO Dr Haji Azaharaini bin Haji Mohd Jamil, senior management and heads of faculties attended the event.
Dr Haji Azaharaini said the establishment of the KIGS Alumni Association was made when management realised that its alumni were not managed effectively.
The association aims to promote the interests, welfare and educational direction of KIGS and its alumni, establish and maintain a mutually beneficial relations between KIGS and its alumni, and encourage lifelong engagement of KIGS’s alumni with fellow alumni and the KIGS community.
The CEO highlighted that the interim committee should plan around this general purpose and it is important that they map out the scope of activities in the constitution as the association will only be allowed to carry out activities as listed.

He said the KIGS management should use this platform to help former students find job opportunities and for the association to organise seminars, workshops, visits, social functions and sports activities for its members.
“Indirectly, KIGS supports lifelong learning by being involved in the delivery of these activities and promoting the image of the college in the local community,” he said.
“While a strong alumni association can provide strong career development support such as offering work attachment to KIGS students, the value of receiving free advice and guidance from the college makes membership worthwhile.”
The CEO also pointed out that it is up to the interim committee members to find out the members’ needs and what activities should be organised to fulfil those needs. It is hoped that the interim committee will do their best to get the constitution ready for submission to the Registrar of Societies.
“I also hope that the alumni association will be fully operational in the next few months, active and making significant contributions to both the college and its members,” the CEO added.
Twenty-five alumni were selected to be the interim members of the association with the election consisting of students who graduated between 2014 and 2020.
Awangku Mohammad Marzuki Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Matusin was appointed as President and Nur Inara Mikayla @ Michelle as Vice President.
Remaining positions were filled by Mohammad Fakhri bin Jamil as Secretary and Siti Syazwani binti Mohamad Shahminan as Assistant Secretary while Muhammad Ifwat Zakwan bin Zainudin has been elected Treasurer and Syakirah binti Haji Ibrahim Assistant Treasurer.
Twelve other committee members have also been elected.
