International School Brunei (ISB) Seria recently organised a series of activities for its students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6 during a Wellbeing Week highlighting the positive impact of small acts of kindness.
Year 4 teacher Marie McCready said the activities centred on well-being and mindfulness, along a variety of themes. “During the Monday theme of ‘Active Day’, the students participated in an aerobic session,” she said. Students also took part in the challenge of climbing Mount Kinabalu virtually through 3,000 flights of stairs, which they surpassed by climbing 3,153 flights.
Tuesday’s theme was ‘Keep Learning’, encouraging students to learn a new skill such as putting on their own socks by themselves, tying shoelaces, juggling, Taekwondo, sign language and a few words of Arabic.
On Wednesday, the students took part in activities themed around ‘Be a Bucket Filler’, where they collected donations amounting to BND170 for Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA). The students spent the rest of the day writing post-it notes to each other filled with compliments, kind words and creative sketches.
On Thursday, the school explored the theme ‘Take Notice’, by enjoying nature at Seria Park. “The school brought flowers and plants from the local market which will be planted around the campus by the young learners, so they can see the plants grow and develop as they do,” said McCready.
The students looked at new avenues to ‘Connect’ with others through story-telling or leaning positive messages for their friends, parents and teachers to conclude Wellbeing Week yesterday.
The donation collected by the students was presented to KACA representative Awang bin Haji Ramli by ISB Seria Head of School Yynda Thomas during the general assembly yesterday.
