THE 11th Art Competition, organised in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 70th birthday celebration, was recently held at the Art Gallery of the Dermaga Diraja in Bandar Seri Begawan.
The competition was divided into three different themes comprising ‘His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, with Youths’ for Category A; ‘Development and Achievements of Youths’ for Category B; and ‘My Vision for My Country’ for Category C.
In Category A, Haji Dayang bin Haji Mutalip emerged as the winner. Suhaili bin Omar came in second while Awangku Amirul Umara bin Pengiran Zainin came in third.
In Category B, Abdul Ajihis bin Haji Terawih was proclaimed as the winner. Osman bin Bakir came in second while Awangku Md Rahiman bin Pengiran Aliudin came in third.
In Category C, Dayangku Siti Syahirah binti Pengiran Haji Husair was awarded as the winner. Yeo Yeo came in second while Nuraqilah binti Haji Zainuddin placed third.
Present as the guest of honour was Haji Idris bin Haji Ali, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah along with a Doa Selamat followed by a welcoming speech from Dato Paduka Ar Haji Idris bin Haji Abas, co-chairman of the event.
In his speech, the co-chairman highlighted that the first place winner of Category A will not only win $5,000 cash, but will also have his painting presented as a pesambah to His Majesty.
The winning entries of the competition are being put up for exhibition from August 27 – September 25.
