The Women’s Bureau of the Kampong Batu Apoi Village Consultative Council (MPK Batu Apoi) has ventured into producing biscuits made from ambulong (sago flour), in an effort to boost the village’s economy under the One Village, One Product (1K1P) initiative.

A Women’s Bureau member told the Bulletin, “The process involved in making them is not the same as for other traditional biscuits, as it requires specific techniques to prepare the batter.

“This includes placing the flour under the sun for several minutes, before it can be sifted.”

Since the opening of the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge, MPK Batu Apoi has been inundated with an increase in demand for biskut ambulong, kubal ambulong, sapit ambulong and many more.

Initially, the ambulong-based biscuits only had one flavour but to expand the market, different flavours are now being sold such as oreo, teh tarik, almond, ovaltine, vico, chocolate, snow milo, snow horlick and rainbow beads.

The biscuits are made to order as snacks, but the MPK also receives orders for large quantities as gifts at milestone events such as weddings and birthdays.
