Sapling planting raises environmental awareness

One hundred and seventy-seven flowers and saplings were planted in the vicinity of the Brunei Darussalam Maritime Museum in Kota Batu yesterday as part of a campaign to raise environmental awareness among its staff.

Present at the event was Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saidul Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin who also toured the museum.

The flowers and plants were provided by the Agricultural Research Station in Kampung Birau Tutong, the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, and the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation.

The museum was launched by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office in 2015.

The museum is made up of three galleries – Brunei Shipwreck, Brunei Maritime Glory and Archaeological Heritage Site.

Since the opening, the museum has attracted some 140,774 visitors, 55 per cent of which are locals.
