Minister attends ASEAN meet on digital literacy

Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman attended the virtual ASEAN-UNICEF Conference on Digital Transformation of the Education System throughout ASEAN yesterday.

The event was co-hosted by Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the ASEAN Secretariat and officiated by Vietnam’s Minister of Education and Training Pung Xuan Nha, ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi and UNICEF Regional Director Karin Hulsof.

The objectives were to recognise the growing urgency to promote digital literacy and transferable skills across the ASEAN education system and to share good practices while highlighting their challenges.

The conference comprised three ministerial sharing sessions during which the minister shared the initiatives taken by Brunei’s Ministry of Education (MoE) in its journey towards digital education. It included the focus on capacity building in terms of enhancement of digital readiness of teachers and school leaders, digital competencies for students and equitable access to digital learning.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin and officers from the MoE also attended the event.
