Members of the public can now donate to mosques, suraus and religious halls or Brunei Darussalam Mosque Construction Fund using BIBD QuickPay.

Powered by BIBD NEXGEN, it allows users to pay by scanning a QR code using the BIBD NEXGEN Wallet smartphone app.

This initiative is part of BIBD’s drive to encourage customers to go cashless and digital giving a modern twist to sedekah or charitable practices.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman launched the service at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Mubashar Khokhar was also present.

Mubashar Khokhar said Brunei has over 500,000 mobile users and there is room for growth in the usage of digital payment.

“One of BIBD’s priorities is to support the nation’s transformation into a cashless society. We are honoured to partner with the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and are confident this collaboration will serve as an example to become a cashless society,” he said.

Through this initiative, the public can donate without bringing cash. With just their smartphones, they can scan and donate ‘digitally’ thus avoiding the risk of loss and theft.

Sixty-five mosques, suraus and religious halls in the country can accept donations via BIBD QuickPay. The public can also contribute to the Brunei Darussalam Mosque Construction Fund established by consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in 2015.

The ceremony continued with a video presentation on the digital payment service and handing over of BIBD QuickPay posters to representatives by the minister.
