Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah yesterday commended the Chinese Enterprises Association in Brunei (CEAB) for providing training to ensure Brunei Darussalam’s workforce is job-ready and well-equipped with industry skills.

He made these comments during the Economic Forum ‘Mutual Support & Overcoming Challenges Together’ organised by the CEAB.

He also thanked CEAB members for providing business opportunities to the local micro, small and medium enterprises and job opportunities to local Bruneians. The economic forum was held at the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Brunei Branch in Kampong Kiarong.

The event supported by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Brunei Branch and the People’s Republic of China Embassy in Brunei Darussalam was attended by Permanent Secretary (Economy) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, MoFE officials, Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd CEO Chen Lian Cai and guests.

Upon arrival, the minister was welcomed by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Brunei Branch General Manager Wang Xiaolin. The general manager also accompanied Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew for a brief tour of the bank.

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong, in her keynote address, urged CEAB members to continue to explore further business opportunities in Brunei Darussalam. During the dialogue session, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew delivered his views on the current local economic landscape.

He explained how foreign direct investments can continue to play their role in growing Brunei Darussalam’s economy especially in the development of priority industries – downstream oil and gas, food, infocommunications technology (ICT), tourism and services.

The CEAB established on July 18, 2016, comprises members involved in a variety of business including oil and gas, infrastructure construction, high technology, finance, health services, fishery and logistics and others.

The CEAB was established to promote cooperation between enterprises from both sides and deepen economic and trade relations between the two countries.
