Four government primary schools and eight students with special needs received equipment and learning resources from Junior School of Jerudong International School (JIS) students under the IKHLAS initiative yesterday.
Acting Head of Special Education Unit (SEU) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Eddy Fazlin bin Haji Amdan witnessed the event at Permata Hati Block of Rimba II Primary School.
Eddy Fazlin said, “Today’s handover ceremony illustrates the continuous collaborative efforts between the SEU and the Junior School of JIS through IKHLAS.”
IKHLAS, he explained is a SEU initiative to help students with special needs enhance their learning accessibility and independence in school and at home.
The equipment and learning resources presented throughout the years, he said, “have benefitted and supported the recipients’ learning and needs.”
In the event, students with special needs received wheelchairs, laptops, tablets, a white cane, a folding trampoline and learning resources. The contributions were presented by Junior School students.
Earlier this year, the Junior School held a fundraising week and raised BND9,500 for
this cause. Sheila binti Sirup, representing the recipients, said, “As a parent of an autistic child, it is heartening to know that there are people who care deeply about children with special needs.
“I understand that this is not the first time the Junior School of JIS collaborated with SEU for the benefit of children with special needs. I hope that such collaboration will continue.”
