His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam said Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) moral virtues form a path of light and guidance towards development.
Delivering the titah to mark Maulidur Rasul 1442 Hijrah from Istana Nurul Iman yesterday, His Majesty said that patience was one of the greatest morals that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) possessed.
“The Prophet (pbuh) was known to have great patience throughout his teenage years and adulthood, where he was constantly tested with many obstacles and resistance from his opponents. But with his enduring patience, the Prophet (pbuh) successfully built a highly revered country and Ummah,” His Majesty said.
The monarch praised the Prophet’s (pbuh) ways of developing a country, which started by building his own personality, before the rise of eminent personalities such as Sayyidina Abu Bakar, Sayyidina Omar, Sayyidina Othman, Sayyidina Ali and the other apostles.
His Majesty added that the meaning of personality-building here is acquiring noble moral values such as fairness, bravery, patience, loyalty and trustworthiness as such, which was how Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) began to build a nation, provisioned with an abundance of noble moral values.

His Majesty said this can also be correlated to the theme of this year’s Maulidur Rasul celebration, which is ‘Developing with the Moral Values of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).’ As development is constantly ongoing, His Majesty said that we should grasp on to the Prophet’s (pbuh) moral values as a guiding light, so that all of it is in the path of the religion.
Another example of the Prophet’s (pbuh) moral value, the monarch said, is the prohibition of corruption.
“If this moral value is practised firmly in a country, of course it will promise prosperity and harmony,” His Majesty said, adding that a country free of corruption is a country full of blessings that is free from bane.
His Majesty cited the Prophet’s (pbuh) other moral values, which is beneficence and trustworthy, noting that if these two values form the basis of development, it will be successful in fruition. “That’s how noble and high of the Prophet’s (pbuh) moral values.. if we or anyone possesses them, it can create a blissful world,” the monarch said.
His Majesty cited a verse in Al-Quran, from Surah Al-Anbiya Verse 107 that translates to – “We have sent you O Prophet only as a mercy for the whole world.” This is a declaration that cannot be challenged and denied, the monarch said.
Earlier in the titah, His Majesty praised the people and residents of Brunei for their patience and conforming to government directives in enduring, what His Majesty said is an “extraordinary test” of the COVID-19 pandemic that has befallen the country and the world.
“Alhamdulillah with our unity and ways to manage it, Allah the Almighty has saved us, allowing us to live our normal lives with comfort and harmony,” the monarch said.
