Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd (Hengyi) organised a Reforestation Project at the Bukit Perumpong, Sungai Liang as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to help with the protection of the country’s environment.
Five hundred saplings were planted across 0.5 hectares of land by over 70 volunteers comprising Hengyi staff and representatives from the Forestry Department, Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam, Damai Holdings Limited and Brunei Climate Change Secretariat (BCCS).
The planted saplings included various species of local trees – Kapur Paji, Selangan Daun Tebal, Binchaloi, Meranti Timbul Putih, Kapur Bukit, Sarang Punai Bukit and Sarang Punai.
The Forestry Department chose the location for the reforestation project as it has been severely affected by forest fire and to mitigate the effect of climate change as well as to support Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy Strategy number 2, which is
Forest Cover.
