Private sector briefed on Employment Order

The Labour Department at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) organised a briefing for the private sector at the Main Hall of the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex recently.

The briefing was chaired by Assistant Head of Tutong Labour Division Pengiran Rakawe bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad and conducted as part of the department’s effort in disseminating information on Compound Fines under the Employment Order 2009.

Enforcement and Legal Section Acting Assistant Commissioner of Labour Mohammad Hazizul bin Hassan delivered the talk.

Attendees were briefed on the compound action taken against employers violating the Employment Order 2009.

Compound fines of no more than BND1,000 will be issued for first and second offences while employers found violating the order for the third time will be brought to court for prosecution.

The briefing also touched on offences that can be imposed with a compound fine as stated in Section 147, Employment Order 2009 and Domestic Services Licence with reference to Employment Regulations (Offence Composition) 2017.

The Labour Department also stressed on the importance of written employment contracts between employers and employees to safeguard both parties’ interests and protection.

Similar events have been conducted in the Brunei-Muara, Belait and Temburong districts.
