A TOTAL of $13,388 was raised for the National Welfare Fund during the ‘Batman Vs Superman Run 2016’ that was recently held at the Jerudong Park Playground.
The funds will be channelled to the Community Development Department at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), with the objective of assisting permanent residents who are barely able to support their family members on a single-parent income.
Around 1,500 individuals, dressed as their favourite superheroes, took part in the first charity run in Brunei to have its runners racing among some fun-filled obstacles.
Among the participants was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah, who ran in the 3.8-kilometre run.
According to Aaron Goh, the Managing Director of Heroes Management and Armtrix Enterprise, the charity run would not have been possible without the support of several agencies, including the MCYS, Ministry of Home Affairs, the Royal Brunei Police Force and Ministry of Health.?
“It was indeed nice to witness Bruneians in support of giving back to the community, as well as creating bonds through running, and then joining in the after-run activities with family and friends,” he commented.
The winner in the 9.5km Male Open was Irfan On, followed by the first runner-up, Shafiee bin Kassim, and second runner-up Abdul Qayyum bin Abdul Kahar.
The first-place winner for the 9.5km Female Open was Vanessa Gomez, followed by Suzie binti Samat and Jessamine Yee in second and third place respectively.
Coming first place in the 9.5km Male Veteran category was Matnarudin bin Ibrahim, followed by Yeoh Eng Koon in second and Peramli Dongglah in third place.
For the female category, the winners were King Siew Tan and Marcela Linares Colburn.
