The Role of Youth in the Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Forum and Workshop held at the Youth Centre in Bandar Seri Begawan concluded yesterday.
Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud was the guest of honour.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Youth and Sports) at the MCYS Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, as well as officers and staff at the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) were also present.
The guest of honour hoped the event will raise youth awareness on the importance of implementing programmes, projects and activities that supports CCA and DRR to achieve the Brunei Vision 2035.
Participants were divided into four groups based on disaster occurrences. Each group discussed expected workshop results through related project exploration, programme and activities for the future via collaboration with other government and private agencies.
Discussions and ideas between participants from each group were put forward during the
plenary session.
The NDMC will host a Disaster Preparedness Coordinator 2 (DPC 2) Programme for youths to be recognised as DPC 2 members. They will then be able to work closely with disaster management action agencies to implement public awareness activities to the public and deployment to disaster areas.
