The Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group (BBCSG) organised the Seuntai Kasih Bersamamu ceremony at Serambi Batil Tarindak D’Seni in the capital yesterday, with Datin Dr Hajah Noraslinah binti Haji Ramlee, the spouse of the Minister of Health, as guest of honour.

Datin Dr Hajah Noraslinah thanked BBCSG for the event, which provides support to breast cancer survivors and patients receiving treatment.

BBCSG, over the 16 years, has been a firm group offering a helping hand to those diagnosed with breast cancer, she said.

“The support group is special as they understand the journey and experience of those that have been diagnosed with cancer, as their committee members also comprises those who experience the same illness,” she said.

BBCSG conducts seminars, forums, guidance and motivation talks, which Datin Dr Hajah Noraslinah believes “eases and positively impacts cancer patients”.

“It is hoped BBCSG will be more active in its outreach and awareness programmes, cancer prevention programmes, in sharing information on health literacy at villages and remote areas, and I hope they can also collaborate with the public and private sectors, Health Promotion Centre, Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre, the Brunei Cancer Centre, skillful nurses and volunteers (comprising students undertaking community health programme) and the youth,” she said.

BBCSG President and organising committee chairperson Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin said the first-of-its-kind is being held in line with its main objective of providing morale and spiritual support to cancer patients.

BBCSG also assists breast cancer patients in purchasing special attires, conducts roadshows and receives invitations to deliver talks at government and private institutions, and publishes books such as Al-Quran Terap Kanser Bersumberkan Ayat-Ayat, Suci Al-Quran and Surah Yaasiin.

The ceremony served as a platform for BBCSG to deliver a sense of care, concern, appreciation and strong support, as well as to forge closer ties among breast cancer patients, especially in sharing their journey in receiving treatment.

The ceremony continued with a sharing session by cancer patient Sharifah Hajah Aisah binti Saikh Said.

BBCSG Vice-President Hajah Linda binti Abdullah, the deputy chairperson of the organising committee, also attended.
