The challenges of transitioning to online learning, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, were highlighted during a prize presentation ceremony held yesterday at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School.
Headmistress of YSHHB Primary School Hajah Mariam binti Haji Ladi said, “This year has been exceptionally challenging, as the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to transition into an online learning environment within a very short amount of time.
“However, the school is blessed with skilled and knowledgeable teachers, in addition to Microsoft Teams, a strong familiar platform ever since 2018. We were able to implement online learning successfully and effectively.”
The ceremony was held for 63 Year 6 students who had excelled in the 2019 Primary School Assessment (PSR) examination.
“At YSHHB Primary School, a total of 136 students sat for the examination and achieved a 100 per cent pass of grades A to D,” said Hajah Mariam.
“Out of that figure, 132 or 97.8 per cent students attained grades A to C, which is an increase of 6.1 per cent, compared to the 2018 results.”
A speech was then delivered on behalf of the students, by Nur Adaniy Haziqah binti Haji Mohammad Yussof, thanking YSHHB Primary School for the support which they received throughout their school years.
Meanwhile, 181 pupils from YSHHB Kindergarten were presented with certificates in a separate ceremony, for completing three years of early education.
YSHHB Secondary School also held a prize presentation ceremony, where awards were presented to the best students in each subject, the top three students from each class and the top student in each level, in the academic category.
In the non-academic category, students who participated and did well in competitions were honoured. A Student Volunteer Award was also given to a Year 9 student for his keen interest in photography.
The prizes, certificates and awards were presented by the CEO of YSHHB School Mohamed Fliti Abdel Majed.
The three presentation ceremonies were held in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as mass gathering regulations and social distancing measures outlined by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.
