Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong officiated the launch of the fourth Brunei December Festival (BDF) yesterday at Times Square Shopping Centre.
Members of the Legislative Council, foreign dignitaries, members of the Brunei Tourism Board, district officers, permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, senior government officials, partners and event organisers of BDF 2020 were also present.
The event, organised by the Brunei Tourism Board through the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) with the cooperation of various ministries, foreign missions, aimed at providing a variety of events and activities for locals to experience throughout the month-long school holiday season.
At the launch, the minister witnessed performances from 12 sports in the country – silat, wushu, karate, taekwondo, judo, kendo, kempo, hapkido, mixed martial arts (MMA), muay Thai, fencing and archery. The performances have been chronicled in the Brunei Book of Records.
The minister then toured an exhibition showcasing the events and activities of BDF 2020. as well as the ticket centre for the various events.
BDF attracted 98,289 visitors in 2017 with 35 events; 173,561 visitors in 2018 with 50 events; and 200,822 visitors in 2019 with 60 events.
The public are invited to visit the exhibitions that end on December 6 on the ground floor of Times Square Shopping Centre and first floor of Citis Square.
