Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) along with 70 staff members took part in the Day of Action (DOA) yesterday held in conjunction with International Volunteer Day (IVD) observed annually on December 5.

The activities, carried out under #BSPCares as an initiative by the company in support of the DOA led by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), were conducted in the surrounding premises of the Seria Energy Recreational Park (SERP).

Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) at the MCYS Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud was welcomed by BSP Commercial Director Haji Mohd Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah.

Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kampong Labi I Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, Minda Youth Movement Vice President and Chairman of the DOA events held in the district Haji Abdul Afiq bin Zainuddin, Head of Youth and Sports Department Belait District Branch Mohd Shahjohan bin Mohd Shari, senior officers and staff from the MCYS and the departments under it also attended.

BSP invited over 80 Miftahun Najaah primary schoolchildren and orphans from the surrounding area to provide an opportunity for the children to participate in fun outdoor activities and to learn something new through the booths set up in the area.

The event started with the recitation of Doa followed by an aerobic session.

The activities were based on three of the seven volunteerism clusters, focussing on education, health and sports, as well as society and humanity.

The clusters were chosen as they closely align with the values of BSP as part of its efforts to give back to the community.

The event continued with the permanent secretary, joined by other attendees, walking briskly across the park, passing by some of the park’s landmarks including the ‘I LOVE SERIA’ signage and the Offshore Rig Playground.

Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal also toured the booths, which included science exhibitions conducted with support from the Seria Energy Lab, where children participated to gain a better grasp on the sciences related to the oil and gas industry, while building motor and creative skills.

Other activities centred around physical coordination, such as a scavenger hunt, ball throwing and bowling.

The event also saw the BSP commercial director handing prizes and school packs to children.

As an initiative launched by BSP to supplement the initiatives conducted by the government and other organisations, #BSPCares will continue to be a company-wide effort to provide empowerment for staff to contribute to a good cause.
