Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, on behalf of Zhejiang University, donated books on ancient Chinese paintings to Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in a ceremony at the Faculty of Integrated Technologies and Centre for Advanced Material and Energy Sciences of the university yesterday.

Vice-Chancellor of UBD Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz received the books from Chairman of Zhejiang Hengyi Group Co Ltd, Hengyi Industries and Director of Zhejiang University Board Qiu Jianlin.

UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Global Affairs) Dr Teo Siew Yean thanked Qiu Jianlin for the contribution that will serve as materials and references for the students.

The books on ancient Chinese paintings are part of a large-scale national cultural project jointly compiled and published by Zhejiang Provisional Administration of Cultural Heritage.

It is hoped that the collection will provide an opportunity for UBD academics and students to study and appreciate traditional Chinese arts, history and culture.

UBD has a tripartite industry collaboration with Hengyi Sdn Bhd and Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China in the Bachelor of Engineering Programme (Chemical and Process Engineering).

In 2014, Hengyi Industries established the joint chemical and process engineering scholarship programme with UBD and Zhejiang University allowing UBD students to continue their studies at Zhejiang University.

The programme is created as part of Hengyi Industries commitment to support the development of local capacity building in the country by offering scholars opportunities for employment with Hengyi Industries. This is part of the company’s long-term corporate social responsibility initiative to create more direct jobs in Brunei and maximise employment opportunities for Bruneians in the oil and gas industry.

Qiu Jianlin also toured UBD’s Faculty of Integrated Technologies and the Centre for Advanced Material and Energy Sciences.
