The two main suspects wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a goldsmith shop in Kampong Tanjung Bunut, on December 12 have been arrested, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) said yesterday.
Muhammad Noh bin Mohd Idham was apprehended in a housing area in the Tutong District, while Mohammad Amirul Alif bin Ali was arrested in Sungai Liang, Belait District.
Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Haji Mohamad Khairul Amilin bin Haji Idris, as the Acting Head of Major Crime Investigation Division under the RBPF’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), revealed the details during a press conference.
He said, “The arrests will assist in investigations and the gathering of evidence.
“Both suspects are expected to be produced in court and charged accordingly.
“This development is the result of public information, which was instrumental in helping RBPF to track and apprehend both suspects.
“The RBPF would also like to express gratitude to its personnel and officers, as well as the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation process.”
While the remaining stolen jewellery has yet to be recovered, Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Haji Mohamad Khairul Amilin warned that under Section 412 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22, anyone found guilty of dishonestly receiving stolen property, such as in a gang robbery, is liable to imprisonment of no more than 15 years and a fine.
On whether there were any other accomplices in the case, Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Haji Mohamad Khairul Amilin said, “At this point in the investigation, we do not think there are more accomplices in the case. The other two suspects – a male and a female – were already produced in court on Thursday.”
