Enforcement officers from the Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department recently seized 1.4 tonnes of smuggled frozen meat, during a joint operation in the Temburong District.
The Allana branded meat, which lacks a Halal import permit, was found on a vessel intercepted in the waters off Kampong Menengah, at around 5pm on December 25.
The operation was joined by personnel from the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
The confiscated meat was brought to the headquarters of the Halal Food Control Division, for further investigation by the RCED.
Other offences are also being investigated, under the Customs Order 2006 and the Misuse of Drugs Act.
The public is urged to relay information on the smuggling of meat products, by contacting the Halal Food Control Division hotline at 7166222 or its office branches in each district.
All incoming Halal meat to Brunei Darussalam should have a valid Halal import permit, in accordance with the proper procedures.
The Halal Food Control Division, along with other agencies, will continue to conduct regular monitoring and operations, to ensure compliance with the country’s laws and regulations.
