MinDef retirees receive the nod for valuable services

The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) held a certificate and memento presentation ceremony at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Jerudong yesterday for 77 retirees who completed their services in 2019.

Certificates of appreciation were also presented to four recipients of the Public Service Excellence Award (APCPA) and one recipient of the Civil Service Staff Meritorious and Dedication Award (AKBBPA) for 2019.

Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof was the guest of honour.

Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, Permanent Secretary (Civil Service, Welfare, International and Media) at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Mohamed Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohamed Yunos, Permanent Secretary at the MinDef Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah, services commanders, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Civil Service, Welfare, International and Media) at the PMO, Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the MinDef, Acting Director General of Public Service, civilian and military directors, commandants, and military and civilian officers, and staff members were also present.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Religious Officer at the RBAF Religious Department Pengiran Muhammad Azrin bin Pengiran Jarail, followed by a recitation of verses from Al-Quran.

It proceeded with a welcoming remark by the permanent secretary.

Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi extended his appreciation to the retirees and described their services as valuable to the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The minister also advised the retirees to occupy their retirement by means of increasing their knowledge, acts of worship and remaining loyal to His Majesty’s Government through contributions to the society.

The ceremony concluded with a speech by representative of the retirees Haji Aliasgar bin Haji Yaakub followed by Doa Penutup by the Religious Officer at the RBAF Religious Department.
