Maids selling food nabbed during operation

Two foreign workers designated as maids found selling food were nabbed by officials of the Law Enforcement Division (LED), Labour Department, during an operation dubbed Ops Selongkar 09/2021 at Kampong Jerudong on January 7.

The operation was conducted to enforce and ensure employers adhere to the Employment Order 2009.

LED enforcement officer conducted the operation around 9.45am.

The officers also found the employer guaranteeing the foreign workers to be in violation under the Employment Order which is working not in accordance to the Domestic Service Licence permit and was used to carry out business activities and abuse of office.

Meanwhile, the employer is alleged to have hired foreign workers designated as maids without a permit from the Labour Commissioner.

The suspect if found guilty will be issued a BND300 compound fine for the first offence and BND600 for the second offence according to the offences under Chapter 112, Employment Order 2009.

The Labour Department reminded employers to always look into employees’s welfare according to the Employment Order 2009 such as preparing employment contracts, payment of salary on time and providing clean accommodation.

Employers are also urged against misusing the Foreign Worker Licence and violating acts under the Employment Order 2009.
