The Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Department of Schools, Department of Examinations, the Private Education Section and the Special Education Unit in collaboration with the Cambridge Assessment International Educations (CAIE) held the 2019 Outstanding
Achievers’ Awards yesterday.
The two-day event is aimed at recognising students who achieved academic excellence, particularly in national public examinations. The award also serves to honour parents and guardians for their support.
The ceremony’s first session highlighted students’ excellent achievements in the Brunei Cambridge (BC) GCE ‘A’ Level/International Baccalaureate and Brunei Cambridge GCE ‘AS’ Level Examinations October/November 2019.
Deputy Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh was the guest of honour.
One hundred and twenty-one recipients from secondary schools, sixth form centres, colleges and private education institutions received awards during the ceremony.
The categories were Cambridge Outstanding Achiever Awards – AS Level; Cambridge Outstanding Achiever Awards – ‘A’ Level; Excellence in BC-GCE ‘A’ Level; Excellence in International Baccalaureate (IB) and Excellence in BC-GCE ‘A’ Level for Candidates with Special Needs.
Cambridge Outstanding Achievers’ Award recipients were handed trophies, certificates and prizes presented by the Cambridge Assessment International Education Board. Meanwhile, students awarded Excellence in BC-GCE ‘A’ Level, International Baccalaureate and BC-GCE ‘A’ Level for Candidates with Special Needs received trophies, certificates and cash prizes.
The Acting Director General of Education/Acting Director of Schools Zainal Abidin bin Haji Kepli said the success is closely related to the Moe Strategic Plan 2018-2022 outlining three Strategic Objectives. The first strategic objective is to transform existing human resources into a performance-based culture.
The second is to provide equal and equitable access to quality education, strengthening the delivery of education from primary to tertiary education which is also given priority covering student learning and curriculum improvement.
The third objective is that continuous cooperation of stakeholders in the country will be enhanced in realising more projects leading to the achievement of excellent educational aspirations in the country.
Zainal Abidin added that the implementation of the strategic plan that is systematic and proper by the ministry staff from various fields and parental involvement will achieve the MoE’s mission to provide holistic education for attaining the vision- Quality Education, Dynamic Country.
Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE, directors and senior officers, school leaders, parents and guardians also attended.
