PDS Abattoir plays a key role in ensuring the country’s meat supply is met. Despite challenges, 2020 was a significant year for PDS, particularly after the completion of the facilities and cold storage in Batang Mitus.

This was shared by PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd General Manager Haji Muhammad Sabirin bin Othman during the company’s media appreciation event.

He said it enabled PDS to increase their capacity in supplying meat to meet the nation’s demand. “With the support of authorities, it enhanced the responsibilities as PDS now supplies 100 per cent of the market demand.”

The event also aimed to foster closer ties and cooperation between the media and PDS Abattoir.

“Alhamdulillah, the facilities and cold storage were completed before the COVID-19 outbreak.

“We had to hasten the construction as we cater the local meat market,” he said. “It was a major responsibility, but we were honoured. Earlier, we catered 30 to 40 per cent of the meat supply in the country, but now, it is 100 per cent.”

In May 2020, PDS Abattoir brought 1,700 cattle from Australia to ensure an adequate beef supply during the COVID-19 outbreak.
