The recently elected Brunei Darussalam Golf Association Governing Council (BDGA GC) met on January 13 to discuss the work plan for 2021-2023. The meeting was chaired by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Hakeem, President of BDGA.
BDGA GC recognises the challenges ahead in delivering programmes to develop and promote the game of golf in the country. It pledges to continue to work with stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BNOC).
The BDGA GC accepts that it needs to draw up and execute plans that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound, to achieve its goals and objectives. While many on the project list were identified requiring collaboration and input from various stakeholders, two could be carried out expeditiously.
Streamlining golfers’ handicaps in Brunei Darussalam for one is given a priority. Working with affiliate member clubs, the handicap system in the country must be consolidated and aligned to international standards. BDGA plans to adopt the world handicap system (WHS) in the upcoming months.
BDGA is also committed to help organise more golf tournaments in Brunei Darussalam. It will work with stakeholders, in particular corporate partners, to deliver in the first quarter of 2021. It is hoped that tournaments such as these would provide the platform for local golfers to improve and excel through competition.
BDGA hopes to gain more trust and support in delivering more projects to golfers of all skill levels in Brunei Darussalam in the coming months.
