Discussions between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China regarding establishing a green lane for essential travel to certain provinces in China and the Sultanate are still ongoing.
“The People’s Republic of China has requested for a similar green lane (such as the one) with Singapore. But safety will always be the priority,” Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said during a press conference to update on the COVID-19 situation in the country yesterday.
The minister said discussions are still ongoing as to which provinces will get the green light.
Asked about a Malaysian national (Sarawakian) who tested positive for COVID-19, the minister said the individual working in the oil and gas sector underwent a swab test before leaving the country.
“The first swab test was negative while the second came back positive. We have contacted the individual for further information and contact tracing.
“We are made to understand that he had been in Malaysia for almost 14 days and had no close contacts before that,” Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said.
“But we traced and identified 36 contacts. All tested negative for SARS-CoV-2,” the Minister of Health added.
Speaking on the latest imported case from the United Kingdom, the minister said Brunei has not detected the new variant.
“The test was sent overseas and we have not received the result as it will take a few weeks.”
