PEHIN Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education, has called on graduates to acquire more skills, so that they can actively contribute to the country’s development.

“Graduates need to understand that what they learn today might not be relevant in two or three years if they do not improve themselves by keeping pace with development and current needs,” he said, while speaking at the 5th Convocation Ceremony for the graduates of Kemuda Institute.

He praised Kemuda for its efforts to provide students with continuing education, while also highlighting the responsibility of educational institutions in equipping youths with knowledge, skills and moral values in accordance with the country’s Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy.

At the same time, the minister lauded current plans by Kemuda Institute to introduce Bachelor’s Degree courses by next year, and said that it would greatly benefit the country by providing local students with more opportunities to obtain degree qualifications.

The minister said that the special awards ceremony was an achievement for the college, which should boost its chances of forming partnerships with other educational institutions.

He encouraged the Kemuda graduates to strengthen their resolve and determination in achieving success.

“Indeed, the current situation is very challenging, especially with limited employment opportunities and competition from other local youths, as well as from foreign workers. But that should not give reasons for graduates to indulge in self-pity or inhibit them from achieving their life goals,” he said.

The minister also emphasised the importance of instilling youths with life skills such as emotional intelligence, endurance and competitiveness, to help them secure employment and face future challenges.

“These skills provide a solid groundwork for graduates who will go on to become high-quality leaders and entrepreneurs for our country,” he said. “However, it cannot be done without our efforts.”
