Twenty-six youth, who enrolled into the GAIA Youth Series Model, began their six-month mentoring programme following its launch at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital yesterday.
The programme has three phases and the first being Camp Wira Challenge pushing the youth’s mental, physical and emotional limits. The second phase involved a Youth Leadership Summit equipping them with skills and tools. The third phase is the mentorship programme to equip the youth with skills to build resilience and self-determination.
The first two phases were conducted in partnership with Projek Bina Ukhwah and the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT).
Dayangku Ayesha binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Salleh leads the mentorship programme held in collaboration with Young Professionals Network (YPN) Brunei. It connects youth with industry experts from various fields.
Dayangku Izma Fatin Farhana binti Pengiran Adi Kamarulzaman said mentorship has a big learning curve for both the mentees and mentors. However, they managed to pool 30 mentors for the programme.
Finance Director Hajah Salma binti Haji Abdul Latif said the programme initially had 30 youth participants but some left and 26 stayed. The selection process is based on government recommendation and from the public.
Hajah Salma said the programme is funded by sponsorship and the organisers’ personal contributions.
