Brunei Darussalam will deploy four officers from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) to join the third Independent Decommissioning Body Verification, Monitoring and Assistance Team (IDB VMAT) in Mindanao, the Philippines.

A flag handover was held at Bolkiah Garrison Gymnasium yesterday.

RBAF Commander Major General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat handed over the flag to head of delegation Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Shalleh bin Haji Ismail.

Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam Christopher B Montero and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah were also present.

According to the Mindef, IDB VMAT is a step in the peace process in Mindanao to oversee the decommissioning of the forces and weapons of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
