The Brunei Wargamas Association (WEB) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) will continue to cooperate to become a strategic partner in various fields, especially in religious activities which drive towards caring for senior citizens.

This was agreed upon when a WEB delegation called on the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bakar at the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Thursday.

The WEB delegation was led by its President Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Mohdammad Don who expressed his appreciation to the Ministry for the welcome and support of religious programmes conducted by the senior citizens association.

The delegation also held a meeting with Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Haji Mohammed Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim as well as senior officials at the Ministry to seek ways to forge ties when WEB organise activities in the near future.

WEB was established to unite senior citizens to jointly play a role in nation building and in developing the people.

The United Nations (UN) has estimated that 28.7 per cent of Bruneians will be aged 60 or above in 2050, compared to eight per cent in 2017.

According to the 2019 UN’s World Population Prospects, one in 11 persons are aged 65 or older, and this ratio is projected to increase to one in five by 2050.

Globally, the population group of those aged 65 and over is growing faster than all other age groups, where, for the first time in history, this age group outnumbered children below five.
