The Diplomatic Corps hosted a farewell dinner at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom of The Empire Brunei on Thursday in honour of outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Brunei Darussalam Mehmet Suat Akgün.
Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Brunei Darussalam Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel Al-Maskari expressed farewell wishes on behalf of the diplomatic community and congratulated the departing envoy on his successful tenure.
“On behalf of the Diplomatic Corps, I would like to congratulate Mehmet Suat Akgün for representing the Republic of Turkey with great distinction since presenting his Letter of Credence to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam,” said the dean.
He elaborated on the advancement attained in Brunei-Turkey relations, saying that the bilateral relations between Turkey and Brunei continue to grow in a promising way, covering a wide-range and substantive cooperation in many important fields.
The outgoing ambassador extended his appreciation to His Majesty, members of the royal family, the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Diplomatic Corps who extended full cooperation and support during his tenure in the country.
The outgoing ambassador also expressed his gratitude to the people of Brunei, adding that he considers Brunei home away from home.
The outgoing Turkish Ambassador presented his Letter of Credence to His Majesty on February 15, 2017.
