Defence chiefs exchange view on security issues

Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat chaired the 18th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Meeting (ACDFM) themed ‘We Care, We Prepare, We Prosper’ at the International Convention Centre (ICC) on Thursday.

Joint Force Commander of the RBAF cum Chairman of the 11th ASEAN Military Operations Meeting (AMOM) and Director of Intelligence cum Chairman of the 18th ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting (AMIM) also attended the virtual meeting.

ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces and representatives adopted the ASEAN Two-Year Activity Work-Plan (2021-2023) and the 18th ACDFM Joint Statement.

Additionally, Brunei Darussalam also initiated a working paper on the ASEAN Military Exercise (AMX).

The proposed AMX by Brunei Darussalam will support ASEAN militaries to achieve the objectives of enhancing regional security, interoperability and capacities through integrated cooperation. Attendees also exchanged views on security issues of mutual concerns, aligned with the meeting’s theme.

The meeting concluded with a handover of the ACDFM Chairmanship to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces as the Chairman for the 19th ACDFM in 2022.

Prior to the meeting, a series of virtual bilateral meetings were held between the RBAF Commander and the ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces.
