Royalty graces badminton meet

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman attended the second day of the Brunei Darussalam CHSK Badminton Cup 2021 in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam 37th National Day celebration at the CHSK Badminton Court in Kiudang yesterday.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim competed in the under-14 boys’ doubles category alongside his partner Dessen Chung Min Tin under the team Flying Gravity against Raymond Pong Zhen Hau and Alvin Yong Zhi Hao from Easyway.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah was also present.

Upon arrival, Their Royal Highnesses were greeted by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Youth and Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim and Dessen Chung won in straight sets 21-2 21-7 to secure a point for Flying Gravity in the group game.

The victory against the Easyway duo was Yang Teramat Mulia and Dessen’s third in the competition following wins over R&T and BRKP OCT in the opening two games.

Their Royal Highnesses also watched a women’s singles match between Flying Gravity’s Samantha Lee Harn Rou and Easyway’s Noor Azura binti Mohd Salleh, which ended with a straight set 21-11 21-15 victory in favour of the former.

The competition, which commenced on March 14, features 12 categories: men’s singles open, women’s singles open, men’s doubles open, women’s doubles open, mixed doubles open, under-14 boys’ singles, under-14 boys’ doubles, men’s singles veteran, women’s singles veteran, men’s doubles veteran, women’s doubles veteran and mixed doubles veteran.

Eight teams divided into two groups took part in the inaugural edition of the tournament.

The participating teams are Flying Gravity, Easyway, R&T, BRKP OCT, Honey Carsmart, RHTS, Muara Port Company and D’Sunlit.

The competition will continue with the semi-final round on March 26 and conclude with the final and the prize presentation on March 28.
