Ten single mothers received donations from Standard Chartered employees recently, in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

The bank said in a statement that it had partnered with the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) to distribute household items, women and children’s clothes, toys, baby nursery essentials, sanitary items and others among disadvantaged households. The event took place Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s Student Centre, in the form in the style of a thrift market. Single mothers from low income households were invited to select the available items.

Standard Chartered staff collected donations since the start of International Women’s Day and worked together with SCOT volunteers to organise the event over two days. “Our collaboration with SCOT supports the bank’s mission to support our communities and play a part in being a responsible institution in the market we operate in,” said Standard Chartered Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing Marilyn Graeme.

“In observing International Women’s Day, we also wanted to focus on helping women and their families through this activity.”
