Local youth keen to learn more about the scholarships, joint programmes, entry requirement and potential career paths available at Hengyi Industries can visit the Hengyi Open Day at Mahligai Hall at The Airport Mall.

Organised by Hengyi Industries, in collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Politeknik Brunei (PB), and Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), the two-day event promotes joint scholarships and collaborative programmes between Hengyi and local institutions as a pathway for local youth to further their education and skills.

Human Resources Director at Hengyi Industries Alan Goh, UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Pengiran Dr Mohammad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Head of PB School of Science and Engineering cum Principal Dr Tang Shi Siong, and IBTE Acting Director Hajah Mariah binti Haji Abdul Manaf officiated the opening ceremony.

Hengyi has collaborated with local institutions to establish joint scholarships and collaborative programmes as part of its commitment to achieving the goal of the ‘Bruneianisation’ directive as well as Brunei Vision 2035 goal of creating more educated, highly skilled, and accomplished people.

In collaboration with UBD and Zhejiang University, Hengyi launched the Bachelor of Chemical and Process Engineering Joint Scholarship Programme in 2014. In the programme, students will undergo two-and-a-half years at UBD, one year at Zhejiang University, and a half-year of industrial training in China. As of today, 103 students have been awarded the scholarship.

Hengyi collaborated with IBTE and Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic (LPP) and launched two joint scholarship programmes. The Diploma in Refinery Operator (Hengyi), launched in 2018, has been awarded to 100 students, while the Diploma in Control and Automation Engineering (Hengyi) will begin in July 2021 for the first intake.

Both are three-year programmes, with students undergoing one year of institutional based training at IBTE Jefri Bolkiah Campus, one year at LPP, and one year of on-the-job training with Hengyi at Pulau Muara Besar (PMB).

Hengyi recently signed a memorandum of understanding with PB to run seven Level 5 Diploma programmes in collaboration with LPP. Two joint programmes have already commenced – Diploma in Laboratory Technology (July 2020) and Diploma in Chemical Engineering (January 2021). The five other joint programmes – Thermal Power Plant Technology; Water Treatment Technology; Chemical Equipment Technology; Power Plant and Power System Technology; and Storage and Transportation Technology – will commence this July.

All seven programmes are three years long, with students undergoing one year of academic education at PB, one year at LPP, and one year of industrial placement with Hengyi at PMB.

The Open Day continues today from 9am to 11am and again from 2.30pm to 5pm.
