THE strong spirit of former Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) student Dayangku Nazurah binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad in pursuing her objective of becoming a lecturer in Sierra Leone, Africa, is extraordinary and exemplary, as she takes pride in being the first Bruneian to do so.
Attached as a full-time lecturer at the Design Faculty of Lim Kok Wing in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, she went on to shoulder a huge responsibility as she was flown in July 2016 to one of the poorest areas in Africa. Her mission was no easy feat, as she has had to adapt to a totally new and difficult environment, in the face of new cultural experience.
Being one of the most recognised international universities in Malaysia, University Lim Kok Wing Creative Technology has spread its reach the world over in a short period of time. University Lim Kok Wing Sierra Leone is the first international university in that country with 1,500 students.
Dayangku Nazurah has 300 students under her care, with eight classes to run each week, teaching creative studies, a module which covers a few creative areas such as music, art, design and sculptures.
Admitting the challenges faced in the early stages were overwhelmingly difficult, she went on to add that the eager faces of her students lifted her spirit, driving in her the determination to give it her all.
Within a limited period of time, she has helped native students tap their creative and innovate potential, setting them on the path to pursuing any area in the creative industry.
A determined girl from Kuala Belait with a hunger to explore opportunities abroad, her journey has so far been filled with amazing experiences as Lim Kok Wing is one of the busiest universities in Malaysia.
Lim Kok Wing is a strategic partner with KIGS which is running its diplomas and degree courses in areas such as Businees, IT and creative studies, where Dayangku Nazurah once interned at during her final year degree course.
