A SIGNING ceremony between the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and Shenglong New Energy Automobile Co Ltd (China) was held yesterday on the sidelines of the on-going 13th CAEXPO at Guangxi International Wharthon Hotel yesterday.
BEDB and Shenglong New Energy Automobile Co Ltd signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the proposed investment to establish a Research & Development Centre for Clean-Energy Powered Vehicles in Brunei Darussalam.
Shenglong Energy Automobile Co Ltd has extensive capabilities and experiences in manufacturing of electric vehicles and is a new entity formed for the potential projects in Brunei Darussalam.
Representing BEDB was Harris Ibrahim, the Head of Foreign Direct Investment Promotion while Shenglong New Energy Automobile Co Ltd was represented by the President, Zhong Wang.
Also present to witness the signing was Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II and Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office together with other officials from both parties.
The establishment of these two entities will create opportunities by developing new jobs and skills for the local population and at the same time lead to significant increase in export.
The MoU is a result from visits made by the Brunei and Guangxi delegation, headed by Dato Paduka Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Technology, China.
