Residents of Mukim Bukit Sawat and other districts gathered at Kampong Sungai Mau Recreational Park as the Mukim Consultative Council (MPM) of Mukim Bukit Sawat held the annual Tamu Gayoh yesterday.
Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong who participated in the events, was welcomed by event chairman and Penghulu of Mukim Bukit Sawat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman, as well as event co-chairman and Kampong Bukit Sawat Village Head Mohammad bin Abdullah.
Haji Mohd Salleh explained how the Tamu Gayoh represents an annual occasion for Kampong Bukit Sawat residents to band together to enliven the surrounding area of the village with booths and stalls with local businesses showcasing their products and services, as well as games and activities.
Thirty were set up at the recreational park, while another 13 booths showcased One Village One Product (1K1P) from Belait, Tutong and Brunei-Muara districts.
Activities included a warm-up session in preparation for a two-kilometre walkathon, which saw the minister walking on a selected route across the village before making his way back to the starting point.
Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar presented donations to 30 elderly residents, sponsored by Asia Enterprise (AE) Sdn Bhd.
The minister also officiated the launch of the newest 1K1P by Kampong Labi 1 – wajid ubi kayu.
He later toured the booths and stalls.
Legislative Council members Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin as Penghulu of Mukim Liang and Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput as Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labi, Permanent Secretary and Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Acting Belait District Officer and senior officers at MoHA as well as officialts from the Belait District Office and MPM Bukit Sawat members also present.
