Royal presence at swimming championship

Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman attended the second day of the 28th Brunei Age Group Swimming Championships at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex Swimming Pool yesterday.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Faathimah Az-Zahraa’ Raihaanul Bolkiah were also present.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah, performing under the banner of Mabohai Swimming Club, competed in the 50-metre (Long Course) freestyle and 100-metre breaststroke events, both in the 10-11 years girls’ age group.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah clocked a time of 40.70s in the 50m freestyle event and recorded a time of 2:00.10s in the 100m breaststroke event.

Earlier during the opening day of the competition on Friday, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah bagged bronze in the 50m butterfly event.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah competes during the championship.

A total of 249 swimmers comprising 171 males and 78 females registered in the competition with the country’s junior swimming talents on display.

Nine swimming clubs – Mabohai Swimming Club, Hammerhead Swimming Club, Brunei Speed Swimming Club, Jerudong Swimming Club, Dolphin Swimming Club, Psi Swimming Club, KB Piranha Swimming Team, H20 Tolerant and Life Skills Swim School are participating in the three-day meet.

Among the familiar names that headlined the competition were national swimmers Christian Nikles, Muhammad Isa Ahmad and Ashley Chai. All three eased to victories in their events.

During the second day, Mabohai Swimming Club star Kayleigh Ang emerged as one of the standout performers after winning six individual gold medals in the 400m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and the 200m Individual Medley (IM) events.

The competition, which concludes today, is organised by the Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) with the support of the Youth and Sports Department.
