Brunei Darussalam is still lacking writers capable of producing quality scholarly articles, an important component in the Language and Literature Bureau’s (DBP) initiative in achieving a journal of high impact, said Acting Deputy Director of the Language and Literature Bureau Mohd Azurin bin Othman.
“Insya Allah, with the Mastery of Academic Writing Workshop, participants will be able to produce scholarly works of a quality comparable to the writings of world scholars that can be absorbed in every issue of the Beriga Journal and other publications,” he said during the opening ceremony of the workshop yesterday, as the personal representative of Acting Director of the Language and Literature Bureau Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab.
DBP, through its Research, Documentation and Recognition Division, began the workshop yesterday as an initiative to enhance the skills needed to master the writing of scholarly articles.
The three-day workshop, participated by 35 government officers and local writers with potential in writing scholarly articles, will conclude tomorrow at the Sengkurong Library, DBP.
The workshop is aimed at guiding and strengthening the scholarly article writing skill, promoting the application and cultivation of quality scholarly writing, and emphasising qualitative and quantitative research as well as development activities in scholarly writing towards achieving high-impact journals.
The workshop includes discussions and training by workshop supervisor Dr Haji Hashim bin Haji Abdul Hamid, covering ‘Introduction to Scholarly Writing: What is Scholarly Writing?, ‘Guidance on Scholarly Essay Writing Techniques and Styles’, ‘Choice of Title, Content and Language in Writing Scholarly Essays’, ‘Importance of Charts, Statistics, Diagrams and Tables in Articles’, and ‘Importance of Fieldwork’.
