A total of 177 Imams comprising 18 mosque officials, 22 teachers, 74 students and 63 graduates from the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah received letters of appointment to lead Sunnat Tarawikh prayers in a ceremony held by the Mosque Affairs Department in collaboration with the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong yesterday.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim presented the letters of appointment as the guest of honour.
The event was aimed at providing the Imams with experience and enabling them to review and strengthen memorisation.
The appointment is also hoped to attract more congregants to attend the Sunnat Tarawikh prayers especially the youth in the coming month of Ramadhan.
The Imams were also briefed theoretically and practically on the Aqwalwa Af’aal of the Sunnat Terawih prayers to ensure they understand the correct Kaifiyyat of leading the prayer including the recitation of Tuma’ninah and movements during the prayer.
Acting Director of Mosque Affairs Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri said, “Alhamdulillah, since the placement programme was introduced in 2006, it has received encouraging response from the public and the congregation of the mosque.”
The Imams appointed from the teaching staff and students will only lead the Sunnat Terawikh prayers, while the Isyak prayers, Sunnat Witir prayer and Doa will be led by the mosque officials on duty.
He also urged them lead the congregation orderly and confidently.
