With the approach of the holy month of Ramadhan, 154.5 tonnes of Safawy dates (kurma) will be distributed to all Muslims in the country, irrespective of their age and citizenship status.

Each recipient will get a 300-gramme box of dates, supplied by Al-Madinah Dates Company in Saudi Arabia. The dates are a personal gift (Kurnia Peribadi) from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in conjunction with Ramadhan 1442 Hijrah.

Starting yesterday, the distribution process will be carried out in phases, throughout the month of Ramadhan. Meanwhile, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah has allocated several distribution points for members of the public, through their respective village heads.

Civil servants can obtain the dates through their respective ministries and departments, while officers and staff members in registered private companies can collect the dates through their respective firms.

“Yayasan is depending on the support and collaboration from all parties, in ensuring smooth coordination in the distribution of the dates,” said Yayasan in a statement.
