The Information Department, which has encountered a number of challenges, has expanded its effort in upholding the country’s vision – to channel governmental policies and activities to suit today’s needs, said its Acting Director Haji Shahrul Jefri bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim.
“In line with its vision ‘Membudayakan Masyarakat Bermaklumat’, the department will always carry out responsible reporting and adhere to the rules and regulations when disseminating information,” he said at the launch of Lentera Makmur Gallery to mark the Information Department’s 69 years of establishment yesterday, officiated by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud.
Haji Shahrul said, “The gallery features a modern concept that ensures the space and content remain relevant by delivering information audiovisually. For the first phase, the gallery will use the QR code method.”
He said the gallery is broken down into four aspects based on its strategic pillars in disseminating information: the Kluster Raja Kita (Our King Cluster); Derivate Publication Strategy; Face-to-face Communication Strategy; and Media Relation and New Media Strategy.
“The gallery’s main focus is to disseminate the image of the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam by ensuring that all information provided on policies, programmes and activities as well as governmental initiatives in addressing current issues will be delivered in a transparent and effective manner,” he said.
Haji Shahrul Jefri said as students, academicians, government officers, personnel from private organisations and foreigners’ visit the department, it is hoped that the gallery will serve as a centre that provides information on governmental functions and services. The gallery serves as an added value for the existing platform to further deliver information that is in line with the primary objective of the Information Department when it was established on April 1, 1952, to channel public information, policies and activities.
The department also facilitates sharing of information via social media, such as InfoDeptBN mobile app, Information Department and Pelita Brunei social media platforms, and informative screen.
The department also monitors and coordinates with the local and overseas media.
The public can visit the Lentera Makmur Gallery during working hours from Monday to Thursday and Saturday from 8.30am to noon and 2-4pm.
