Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman on Saturday hailed the collaboration between two educational institutions in propelling Brunei youth to a higher standard of education.

“The collaboration between UTB and MIC is an acknowledgement of UTB’s ability to make a significant difference in higher education. The fact that we have been recognised by a private institution in the country for providing quality education is a major achievement,” she said.

She made these comments at the UTB-Micronet International College (MIC) Computing Degree Programmes Roadshow at UTB, attended by 124 students and teachers from different schools.

Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah added the collaboration will promote UTB’s vision of becoming a ‘Global University Impacting Society’ by supporting two strategic focus areas – Quality Education and Quadruple Helix Engagement.

The four invited schools were Rimba Secondary School, Berakas Secondary School, Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College and Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre.

A special workshop titled ‘Exploring the Future Through Internet of Things (IoT) and Emerging Technologies’ by MIC touched on the importance and impact of IoT, virtual and augmented realities.

UTB principal officers, MIC Managing Director Sylvester Yong and General Manager/Principal Sharon Chin were present at the roadshow.

MIC is offering three-year degree programmes such as the UTB-MIC Computing Degree Programmes, which include two majors – BSc (Hons) in Computing (Major in Network Security) and BSc (Hons) in Computing (Major in Multimedia) – providing alternative pathways to enter the university.

Eligible students will undergo their first year studying at MIC and continue the remaining academic years at UTB.

MIC is also a satellite partner to UTB, offering a 14-week UTB BriCOMP programme for students who fall short of ‘A’ Level or International Baccalaureate (IB) points to meet UTB’s minimum entry requirement for the undergraduate programme, and upon completion of the programme, the students will join UTB to pursue undergraduate programme in computing at UTB.

MIC also offers Pearson BTEC Programmes in Information Technology and Business ranging from Level 1 to Level 5 Higher National Diploma.
