Based on the fatwa issued by the State Mufti, the intramuscular injection of any medication during Ramadhan will not invalidate the fast, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said on its Instagram account.
The ruling was highlighted in the State Mufti’s Fatwa Series (13/95) and (19/88).
On the issue of whether the COVID-19 nasal swab test is permissible during Ramadhan, the State Mufti ruled that if the insertion of the swab device should exceed the base of the nose (khaisyum), then it will invalidate the fast.
If the swab device is not inserted too deep within the base of the nose, then it will not invalidate the fast.
However, as a precautionary measure, the State Mufti said that it would be more feasible to conduct the swab test at night during Ramadhan, to avoid interfering with the fast through the voluntary insertion of an object into a body orifice.
