BRUNEI’S first international feature film, ‘Yasmine’, continues to make its rounds worldwide, with the director, Siti Kamaluddin; action director, Chan Man Ching; and lead actress, Liyana Yus, at the opening ceremony of the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival, recently held at the Xi’an Radio and TV Grand Theatre in Xi’an, China.

The Silk Road Film Festival was founded in 2014 as an international platform for film and cultural exchanges among countries along the Silk Economic Belt and Road.

Headlined ‘Film in Development, Culture with Diversity’, the five-day festival has attracted 676 films from 35 countries, including China, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Russia, to compete for five main awards.

Siti Kamaluddin said that she was delighted to see ‘Yasmine’ is still doing its rounds of cinemas and festivals worldwide, since its premiere in Brunei two years ago.

“It’s always nice to see incentives being put into the film industry, and having ‘Yasmine’ among lists of selected movies is something that I am proud of,” she said.

“I enjoy watching other films from other countries that tell their own stories, knowing that I, as a Bruneian, also have my own to share.”

Liyana Yus, meanwhile, expressed her surprise that the film has been received on such a large scale and show on the international circuit.

“To be here two years later, promoting ‘Yasmine’ in China, is overwhelming, and I am definitely honoured to be here today,” she said.
