DRUG syndicates are now using various tactics to lure people especially youths into the dangerous narcotic world.
This was stated by Dayangku Soffia @ Nurqalbi binti Pengiran Haji Soffian, Chief Narcotic Officer I, from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), during an interview with the Bulletin on the sidelines of the the ‘Monitor Our Children’ children drug abuse prevention programme held yesterday at the Community Hall of Kampong Bukit Beruang, Tutong.
She pointed out that certain syndicates use gifts such as electronic gadgets and Easi cards, to name a few, to lure victims and offer employment opportunities.
Hajah Norashidah binti Haji Aliomar, Acting Director of Information, during her welcoming speech pointed out how the issues of illegal drug abuse in society is increasingly worrisome and that the government has taken efforts to overcome the issue.
“Various efforts have been implemented to counter the issue of drug abuse, an issue that could weaken the country, especially when those who are affected are the youths,” she said.
A briefing was also presented by Hajah Norhayani binti Abdullah, narcotics officer from the NCB.
The programme, organised by the Information Department in cooperation with the NCB, aimed to increase the awareness of parents in preventing drug abuse among children.
Present as guest of honour was Haji Idris bin Haji Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Also present were Haji Adnan bin Haji Adam, Acting Tutong District Officer; Pengiran Hajah Masnah binti Pengiran Haji Damit, Assistant Director (Preventive Drug Education) of the NCB; Ahmad bin Aman, Kampong Bukit Beruang Village Head; and Haji Abdullah bin Mohd Tahir, Kampong Danau Acting Village Head.
