A DELEGATION from Rajapark Institute, Yala Campus Thailand was at the Tutong District for a goodwill visit yesterday.
The 38-person delegation comprising lecturers and members of the village committee from Southern Thailand was led by Assistant Professor Kasem Benchawong, PhD, Director of Rajapark Institute, Yala Campus.
The visit aimed to provide cultural exchange between members of the Mukim and Village Consultative Councils in the Tutong District with the members of the village committee from Southern Thailand, including showcasing an exhibition of the ‘One Village, One Product’ (1K1P) and ‘One Tambon, One Product’ (OTOP) initiatives.
The arrival of the delegation at the Kampong Bukit Community Hall was welcomed by Haji Muhammad Shadiqin bin Abdullah Janjam, Village Head of Kampong Bukit, Tutong. Also present were Siti Joriahati binti Johari, Special Duties Officer as Head of the Corporate Division, Tutong District Office, and Muhammad Amir bin Haji Umarali as Chief Executive Officer of the Tutong District Tourism Coordination and Promotion Body.
The ceremony began with a welcoming speech from Haji Muhammad Shadiqin. The delegation then enjoyed a traditional dance performance from the Dusun ethnic commu-nity.
During the cultural exchange activity, the delegation was given a chance to participate in ethnic dances and a demonstration of the eating of Pinang fruit and betel leaf – a common practice by the Dusun ethnic community.
The delegation was later taken to visit and watch a traditional food exhibition and local handicraft works at the Kampong Bukit Handicraft Gallery, which also included an exhibition and sale of products from both countries.
Before the end of the visit, both parties made an exchange of souvenirs in appreciation and as a memento of the visit.
